Chapter 11

While he ate, the telltale splash let Dugan know his mate had fled to the safety of the ocean. He couldn’t blame Diallo. The man hadn’t been ready for his declaration of love or his teasing words of sex, yet Dugan didn’t feel the least bit repentant. If anything he felt smug.

Diallo was so straitlaced, it was good to see the man off-balance. That it was Dugan who made that happen was just the cherry on top.

What had surprised him was to see his mate through the bedroom window stride into the ocean as naked as the day he was born. Unfortunately, Diallo was too far away to see in all his glory, but Dugan had every intention of getting a glimpse at the man when he came back home.

Since he doubted it would be anytime soon, Dugan finished his meal and worked to get out of bed with the help of the crutches Diallo had graciously left him. He tried to ignore the twinges of pain, but some of the wounds throbbed too insistently to easily forget.

In an effort to minimize his movements, Diallo left his dishes on the bed while he went to the bathroom to clean up. Not able to take a shower without getting the bandages wet, Dugan had to settle for wiping a wet washcloth over his body. It wasn’t perfect, but it would do for now.

Back in the bedroom he found his duffle bag on a nearby chair. Taking out a pair of shorts and a T-shirt, he put them on, then picked up the dishes he’d used and carefully made his way out to the kitchen with one crutch.

Under normal circumstances one crutch would be all he needed, but the trauma he’d put his leg through, left him feeling weaker than he would have preferred. He would get the second crutch as soon as he put away the dishes.

The house was well decorated in serene blues and greens. Dugan could easily relax here. There were two other bedrooms that were just as spacious as the one he’d been using, each with their own bathrooms. The hallway was nice and wide, which he was thankful for, or it would make maneuvering with his crutches much more difficult.

The hallway opened up into a great room that was living room, dining room, and kitchen all in one. Tile adorned the floors, which would be tricky for him when it was wet, but he imagined it made it easier to clean the sand and salt that most likely coated everything on a daily basis.

Once he had the dishes washed and in the drying rack, Dugan made his way back to the bedroom to get his other crutch. By the time he made it back to the living room he was far more tired than he should be.

The large leather couch looked way too inviting not to sit. As he looked out the open sliding doors into the turquoise blue of the ocean, Dugan was in awe.
